Version 0.1.1: one step closer to a good-looking picture

The graphics are optimised and tested on weak devices, which makes room for the textured art to come. Plus corner shots, rubber rounds and fixes to fire. The main thing in version 0.1.1 is performance: it makes room for the textured art that comes next. The full list of changes is below.

New

  • Fire at an enemy's last known position.
  • Rubber rounds can be bought in the shop and taken on a combat sortie. A magazine of rubber rounds is marked with a yellow plate in the equipment screen and in battle. On a reload in battle the kind of rounds can be chosen.
  • Controls can be rebound; the key map is saved.

Improvements

  • The hard limit on firing range is removed: past the weapon's range the hit chance falls off.
  • Overwatch reacts in the fire mode set for the watcher, not always with a single shot.
  • Routes go through windows, half-cover and low fences.
  • Movement is limited by the round's time, not by a separate pool of points.
  • An item can be picked up from the next cell.
  • Ammunition is sold in packs.
  • The equipment screen shows numbers: weight and rounds by kind.

Fixes

  • A grenade throw takes the target's height into account.
  • Fixed shots and grenades landing on the wrong floor.
  • Fixed an equipment bug that sent a soldier into battle with an empty magazine.
  • A soldier's age is shown.
  • A veteran's dossier is shown.
  • Awards say what they were given for.
  • If the opponent leaves a battle, a bot takes the side after 30 seconds; the player who stayed may leave with a win.
  • Bullet tracing takes the target's level into account.
  • The weapon's tilt matches the direction of the shot (almost).
  • The client's planner and the server compute a route and the time of actions the same way.
  • The last round of a battle plays to its end.
  • A soldier's own rounds no longer count as loot.

Graphics and performance of the 3D battle

  • Meshes are optimised at load.
  • The part of the map out of view is culled.
  • Playback follows real time.
  • Low graphics quality is available as a setting: no anti-aliasing, a simpler sky light.
  • Automatic switch to low quality when performance is low: after 10 seconds under 30 frames a second.
  • FPS measured (before → high / low quality):
  • iPhone 6: 21 → 45 / 53
  • Android (Adreno 630): 23 → 55 / 56
  • laptop with UHD 630: 20 → 51 / 59
  • MacBook Air 2012: 9 → 36 / 47
